Authorities apprehended a suspect who was allegedly transporting drugs worth millions on the N2 near Sir Lowry’s Pass on Friday 19 April. According to police, the suspect was caught around 16:20 after an estimated R2 million’s worth of Mandrax was confiscated from a vehicle travelling on the highway. The arrest came as a result of a swift reaction on information received by members of the Hawks’ South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau (SANEB) and Crime Intelligence’s Counter Narcotics and Gangs in the Western Cape regarding a vehicle transporting drugs from the Eastern Cape to Cape Town. “The vehicle was spotted, stopped and searched,” read a media statement. “On closer inspection 50 packets (50 000) of Mandrax were found in a false compartment in the back of the vehicle. The driver was immediately arrested. The 33-year-old suspect was expected to appear in the Strand Magistrates’ Court on Monday 22 April on a charge of dealing in drugs.”
