The reader attached this photo among others to depict the condition of Kleinbos Avenue.

Ward Councillor Carl Punt has previously stated that a road that is totally unusable is a private road, yet there is a sign that says otherwise in Kleinbos Avenue in Strand.

The road is unusable and falling apart after a huge sinkhole fell into Main Road recently and all traffic was diverted via this road. Following recent rainstorms, the road is now totally unusable.

If this is a private road as stated by Punt, why was all traffic redirected into Kleinbos Avenue, which motorists still access daily even after the sinkhole saga was sorted? If this is a private road, whom does it belong to then? Who is responsible for the repair of this road?

The condition and ill maintenance of the road has been an ongoing problem and yet after numerous complaints nothing has been done to resolve it.

Ward 83 councillor Carl Punt responds: “Kleinbos Avenue is not a private road. When the developer built the flats next to the railway line, the upgrade of Kleinbos Avenue was part of the deal, and it was done by a private developer and not the City of Cape Town.“The bottom part of Kleinbos Avenue was not part of this, so it was not done. This part is not used much and needs repairs. At this stage it’s not earmarked to be upgraded as there are other roads higher up on the priority list. The department is aware of this section.”
