MONDAY 9 OCTOBER

Somerset West: If you are living with someone whose drinking is affecting you, or perhaps you are experiencing problems after having lived with an alcoholic ­relative or friend, help is available at the Al-Anon meetings held weekly. Meetings take place every Monday at 20:15 and Thursday at 12:00. Alternatively, help is also available via a telephone call, which will be treated as confidential. Somerset West: The South African Depression and Anxiety Group’s (Sadag) local support group for people living with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder meets every Monday, alternatively in person (at the Coronation Avenue Methodist church at 18:00) and online. WOENSDAG 11 OKTOBER

Strand: Die Hottentots Holland-tak van die Vroue Landbouvereniging (VLV) vergader om 09:30 in die onthaalsaal van die Strand-Noord Gemeente. Dit is ’n kleiner groepie wat interessante sprekers reël, handvaardighede uitstal en by gemeenskapsprojekte betrokke raak. Daar gaan ’n demonstrasie oor die versiering van kolwyntjies wees. SATURDAY 14 OCTOBER

Somerset West: Today (14 October) marks World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, which is celebrated by Helderberg Hospice every second year with a musical concert, Voices for Hospice. Under the directorship of well-known musician Bevan Sylvester and, in support of Helderberg Hospice, the United church will be filled with a wonderful music mix of song and melody. “Lara’s Theme”, comprising pianist Allen Stidworthy, singers Anita Glenister and Leonie van Niekerk, and cellist Rosemary Robertson, are a local group of musicians adding their talents to the musical afternoon. Also performing are the Cantibile Choir, James Isaacs and Sr Gillian Francis, a nurse at Helderberg Hospice. Tickets for the concert are available from Helderberg Hospice, 21 Old Stellenbosch Road and the Hospice Shops at 150 Main Road in Somerset West and 50 Fagan Street in Strand. Stellenbosch: The fundraising charity breakfast “Beyond Business”, which seeks to shine a light on the crucial issue of child sexual abuse in the Helderberg, takes place at the Seven Sisters Vineyards (off Annandale Road). The event will be held from 09:00 to 12:00 and in aid of Patch, the Helderberg Centre for Child Victims of Sexual Abuse. Those attending are invited to engage in a meaningful dialogue on child sexual abuse and networking opportunities. A limited number of tickets are available at only R300 per person (breakfast included). Individuals and businesses interested in offering financial support, can make monetary donations via the Quicket booking platform. Strand: Capetonian rocker Mark Haze and his band are ready to bring their powerful sounds to the Helderberg, with the Masters of Rock show to set The Drama Factory stage alight at 19:30. THEATRE PRODUCTIONS ON AT THE FACTORY: André the Hilarious Hypnotist brings his mind tricks and barrels of laughs to The Drama Factory in Strand on Thursday 12 October at 19:30. The performer celebrates a record breaking 31 years on stage as South Africa’s convener of the strange, weird and wonderful. André discovered his hypnotic calling after watching a performance of the late Max Collie. The uniqueness lies in the fact that no two shows are ever the same, as its strength lies in every night’s volunteers being completely different, leading to a diverse hilarious action-packed evening performance. With every person reacting differently to André’s suggestion, not even he knows what to expect on stage. The funny man does, however, promise not to disappoint and the audience can expect an hour of side-splitting, hilarious hypnotic entertainment.
