SATURDAY 18 APRIL
Somerset West: Parel Vallei High School’s Dramatic Arts Department presents Mockingbird, bringing Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel to life on stage at THE PLAYHOUSE THEATRE. The educational production serves as a valuable companion to the Grade 10 English home language setwork, offering audiences a powerful theatrical experience of the modern American classic. The story follows respected lawyer Atticus Finch, who instils values of kindness and empathy in his children but faces his greatest moral test when he seeks truth in a town determined to hide it. The adaptation by Darryl Spijkers supports high school learners’ study of the novel while delivering compelling drama that resonates with contemporary audiences. Directed by Celeste Grobler under the guidance of Spijkers, the production features talented young performers including Alistair Jones, Carli Erasmus and William le Roux. The production will be performed over five shows, with evening performances on 18, 20, 22 and 23 April at 19:30. A special matinee will take place on Sunday 19 April at 15:00.
