On Friday 13 March, Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) was honoured to host Western Cape premier, Alan Winde, at the RDM Macassar Community Centre.
The visit enabled Winde to observe first hand how the centre assists local community members in accessing employment opportunities and practical support during these challenging economic times.
The engagement also provided RDM’s newly appointed chief executive, Maximilian Froch, with an opportunity to meet the premier formally and present an overview of the company’s operations and community initiatives.
South Africa continues to face considerable unemployment challenges.
The RDM Macassar Community Centre plays a crucial role in this endeavour by providing a space where the community can access information, support and opportunities irrespective of their professional background. Through collaboration with local partners and government programmes, the centre helps create pathways for individuals actively seeking employment.
Recently, the RDM Macassar Community Centre launched a credit-bearing programme designed to assist community members in achieving NQF Level 4 qualifications and beyond.
During his visit, Winde encouraged the RDM team to use the provincial government’s career portal to identify additional employment opportunities for locals.
He also recommended engaging coordinators from the Western Cape government’s eCentres programme to exchange insights and strengthen collaboration.
In an economy where many seek employment, initiatives that unite organisations around a shared purpose can effect tangible change in addressing poverty.
Winde concluded his visit with a compelling reminder of employment’s importance: “Nothing stops a bullet like a job. Nothing puts food on the table like a job. And nothing gives dignity like a job.”
