The legendary Montreux Jazz Festival’s highly anticipated African debut has finalised its programme with the announcement of internationally acclaimed artists Matt Hansen and Tigran Hamasyan, alongside promising South African ensemble Caleb Dlamini & Friends.
Adding to the excitement, Grammy-winning vocalist Lalah Hathaway will join Robert Glasper and special guest Bilal for a rare live collaboration at the inaugural Montreux Jazz Festival Franschhoek from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 March.
The Swiss-born festival brings together almost 40 global icons and African talent in celebration of musical discovery across the Cape Winelands.
Hansen will perform at The Arches on Friday night, while Armenian pianist Hamasyan, winner of the 2003 Solo Piano Competition of the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation, will showcase his artistry at the Jazz Village stage at the historic Franschhoek Dutch Reformed church.
The lineup includes drummer prodigy Caleb Dlamini (17) from Franschhoek, supported through festival legacy partner FRANCO, representing the next generation of South African musicians.
Festival co-founder Raffaella Goedvolk says: “What excites us most is the meetingof generations – from globally celebrated artists to young musicians like Dlamini who represent the future of jazz.”
