FRASERBURG – A community tip-off has led to the arrest of four suspects and the seizure of dagga with an estimated street value of R6 700 in Fraserburg.

The arrests were made by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Namakwa District on Friday, 21 August, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community participation in the fight against crime.

At approximately 22:45, police followed up on information received from a vigilant community member and proceeded to a residence in Commercial Street, Fraserburg.

Upon arrival, officers allegedly found four suspects busy packaging dagga into small bags, which police believe were intended for distribution.

The suspects – a 21-year-old woman and three men aged between 20 and 26 – were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.

The four suspects are expected to appear before the Fraserburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 25 August.

The arrests highlight the importance of cooperation between police and communities in combating drug-related crime. SAPS said its approach is aligned with its Reset Agenda, which emphasises visible policing, community participation, accountability and responsive policing.

Hydroponic dagga seized in Port Nolloth

In an unrelated incident, SAPS members in Port Nolloth discovered hydroponic dagga abandoned in the town’s business area on Saturday, 22 August.

Police made the discovery at approximately 11:00.

The hydroponic dagga has an estimated street value of R60 600.

An enquiry has been opened, while investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the drugs and identify those responsible.

Police have urged communities to continue providing information that could assist in preventing and combating drug-related and other criminal activities.
