The Hector Peterson Memorial Library in Lwandle is temporarily closed for renovations and people are referred to nearby libraries. The project started in March and is expected to be completed late this year.

Ward 86 councillor, Xolani Diniso, described the library as an asset to the community. He said its refurbishment will bring a fresh look to the facility.

Bigger and better

“The renovation is expected to be completed in December if everything goes according to plan, and [the library] is expected to reopen early next year. It is like we are rebuilding it because it is going to double the library’s size. It will have a bigger children’s section, additional study spaces and SmartCape facilities for all user groups,” said Diniso.

He said patrons are referred to nearby libraries, including those in Somerset West, Strand and Gordon’s Bay, for the duration of the renovation.

A fresh look for the area

The project will cost about R14.8 million, he said, and its facelift will raise the area’s standard.

Diniso urged community members to be patient until it is completed.
