The Library in Langa is operating as usual after the City completed renovation work at the facility last month. The renovation project started in April and was completed on 29 May.
The City’s Mayco member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, visited the library on Friday 12 June to assess the completed project.

Library manager Sandile Bukani described the refurbishment as a breath of fresh air, saying it has made the facility more appealing to patrons.
“The renovation has given the library a fresh new look. Our members are happy and feel more comfortable in the improved environment,” he said.
Bukani added that libraries are no longer just places for storing books or studying.
“People can also use libraries to host meetings, access information and spend their leisure time,” he said.
R600 000 invested in community facility
Higham said the renovation project, which began on 1 April and was completed at the end of May, involved an investment of R600 000 aimed at enhancing the facility and creating a healthier, safer and more welcoming environment for patrons and visitors.
She said the improvements included the construction of a separate parking area, gutter and roof cleaning, tiling, repairs to windowsills, interior and exterior painting, and the installation of an access ramp for persons with disabilities.
“I’m delighted to see the significant difference these renovations have made. They have created an enjoyable and relaxing space for reading and learning. Libraries play an important role in our communities, and renovations, regular maintenance and upgrades are investments in future learning opportunities.
“The library now looks modern and inviting, and we hope the new look will attract more patrons and encourage greater use of the facility,” said Higham.
New parking area benefits visitors
One of the key highlights of the project is the construction of a separate parking area, providing dedicated parking for visitors attending library programmes and events.
The upgrades are expected to benefit the Langa community by improving accessibility, safety and the overall user experience at the library.
