Cape Town is set for a packed week of entertainment with 12 major events expected to draw around 20 000 participants and spectators across the city.
The City’s Events Permit Office has approved events ranging from Disney on Ice and international esports competitions to Currie Cup rugby, sustainable fashion showcases and road running festivals.
Disney magic on ice
Disney on Ice continues its school holiday run at Grand West with Mickey’s Search Party, featuring Mickey, Minnie, Elsa, Moana, Miguel from Coco and Buzz Lightyear in a two-hour spectacle of skating, stunts and music.
Shows take place at 11:00 and 15:00 on Thursday and Friday, with an additional 14:00 and 18:00 performance on Saturday and Sunday. Doors open one hour before each show.

Africa’s gaming elite compete
Grand West will host the second African Gaming Championship from 16 to 19 July, bringing together the continent’s top players to compete for a R150 000 prize pool.
The esports tournament includes the Nitro ASL Finals, where South African school teams will battle for championship honours and qualification to the Carry1st Africa Cup and Call of Duty: Mobile World Championship.
Spectator entry is free, with competition running daily from 09:00 to 17:00. Registration is available through the African Gaming Championship website.
Stormers face defending champions
Currie Cup rugby returns to DHL Stadium on Friday, 17 July at 19:05, when DHL Stormers XXIII take on defending champions Griquas.
Gates open at 17:30, with tickets available online and from the Fritz Sonnenberg Road ticket office on match day.
Motorists should expect traffic disruptions around Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Vlei Road and Granger Bay Boulevard during the match.
Sustainable fashion takes spotlight
Khayelitsha Fashion Week celebrates its 11th anniversary at the Artscape Theatre Centre on Saturday, 18 July, showcasing emerging designers and 45 aspiring models.
This year’s event focuses on upcycling, challenging designers to transform recycled and waste materials into runway-worthy pieces. Designers completed skills-development workshops while models underwent runway and professional training ahead of the event.
The show runs from 13:00 to 18:00. Tickets are available through Webtickets.

Festival of Running closes weekend
The 26th Cape Town Festival of Running takes place over the weekend, beginning Saturday with a 50 km ultra-marathon and a 5 x 5 km team relay along the Sea Point Promenade.
Sunday’s half marathon expects more than 1 000 runners to tackle routes through Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay. Both days begin at 07:00.
Temporary road closures will affect Beach Road in Sea Point, Queens Road near Bantry Bay, Kloof Road and Victoria Road in Camps Bay.
