A 32-year-old man from Cape Town has died after getting into difficulty while bodyboarding at Kenton-on-Sea middle beach, Port Alfred on Friday 25 September.

Three good Samaritans used two National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) pink rescue buoys to pull the man from the water after eyewitnesses raised the alarm.

Bystanders began CPR on the beach.

Aiden Wood, NSRI Port Alfred coxswain spokesperson, said duty crew were activated at 10:04 and responded alongside police, and other emergency personnel.

According to Wood when rescue teams arrived on scene paramedics and NSRI crew continued with advanced life support CPR and used a defibrillator, but all efforts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful and he was declared dead at the scene.

He said police have opened an inquest docket for investigation.
