Convicted property fraudster jailed for 10-year term, amid pending fraud case

BLOEMFONTEIN – Convicted fraudster Mamufumadi Anna “Tshadi” Molelekoa-Taso (45) is set to begin a ten-year prison sentence following a court enforcement order, after failing to comply with a previous court order linked to a major fraudulent property sales case involving 64 victims.

Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, said that the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court ordered the enforcement on Wednesday that had been suspended in 2018.
The enforcement followed Molelekoa-Taso’s arrest by the Bloemfontein’s Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation for her alleged involvement in a pending fraud. The latest case involves the embezzlement of R1,1 million in fraudulent property sales.

Molelekoa-Taso initially avoided serving time in prison in the first case, together with her late husband, Teboho Samuel Taso, after entering into a plea agreement with the state following their conviction and sentencing for theft and fraud. They received a ten-year sentence each, wholly suspended for five years with strict conditions.

They had entered a binding plea that they would reimburse the 64 victims an estimated R5,6 million for fraudulent property sales in Bloemfontein. The repayment deadline as ordered by the court was January 2023. The conditions included that they must not be found guilty of a similar crime during the period of suspension.

“In March this year, the court issued a warrant of arrest for Molelekoa-Taso due to her failure to comply with the conditions of the suspended sentence. She was later traced while incarcerated at Park Road Police Station in Bloemfontein on an unrelated matter. As a result of her non-compliance, the court ordered that the suspended sentence be enforced. Molelekoa-Taso will now serve a ten-year term of direct imprisonment without the option of reimbursing the complainants,” said Matoti.

Molelekoa-Taso and her late husband swindled the victims through their estate agency Senothetsha Property Developer and Quick Step Trading 545, between 2011 and 2013. Investigations revealed that properties they advertised as for sale were not for sale by their rightful owners.
In the pending case, Molelekoa-Taso stands accused alongside Advocate Siseko Leonard Cengcani, his company Cengcani Associates, Nomalizwe Brenda Nkwane (45) and Nontsikelelo Grace Mkololo (41).
