Learners of schools in Bloemfontein received school shoes thanks to the Mandela Day School Shoe Drive by Matla Life Investment.

Louisa Molise, Head of CSI at Matla Life Investment, said the purpose of the drive is to ensure that children have proper footwear, which is essential for their dignity and safety during their educational journey. This initiative not only helps children, but also promotes social responsibility and community service.

“Every forward step in a child’s life should begin in a shoe,” said Molise. “Education is a key focus of our activities, but we understand that funding a school is just one aspect that needs to be fulfilled. Ensuring children have uniforms and school shoes is just as important. We are very happy to sponsor the Matla Life Foundation on this campaign and ensure the shoes reach the most deserving children.”

Tsholohelo Primary school Principal Thandi, Edith Thothela, expressed her appreciation of 100 school shoes, that benefited learners of the school.

“The foundation have made a meaningful difference in the lives of our children, by ensuring they have proper school shoes, restoring confidence, dignity and a sense of belonging, on behalf of SGB, staff, learners, parents and entire community, we appreciate the donation and learner empowerment of new school shoes.”

The 67 minutes that the team from Matla Life were spent meaningfully, allowing and empowering children to dream bigger and fulfil their educational aspirations. “We are truly excited and proud to see Matla Life Investment making a positive educational impact on learners in Bloemfontein,” said Abel Mashaba, Regional Manager at the Bloemfontein branch.

Unity Primary school learners also benefited 100 pairs of school shoes.  The learners were excited, and parents came in numbers to celebrate this day with their children and Matla Life Foundation.

For many children, something as simple as a pair of school shoes can mean the difference between walking to school with dignity or facing daily challenges that no child should endure.”

The celebration took place at Tsholohelo Pirmary school and Unity Primary school in Bloemfontein on 23 and 24 July.
