BLOEMFONTEIN – A local actress Melane Hamman is taking part in the third series of Africa Monologue Challenge in Ghana.

Hamman is part a this challenge led by this Ghanaian Pan-African initiative in which outstanding young African creatives are invited to take part in a structured journey that blends storytelling, cultural diplomacy, youth exchange and continental advocacy.

The event in which 12 nations take part from 1 to 30 September. Each year a call goes out across Africa and the diaspora that invites young people to record a one-minute monologue address African themes such as identity, unity, trade, empowerment, governance and shared destiny.

The submissions are then reviewed and 12 finalists are selected to take part in the series. Participants advance through stages with periodic evictions leading to the final then that get to stay. The top ten finalists spend a month living in the Pan-African House. The eventual winner’s country gets to host the next edition of the AMC. That is Hammans’ aim – to win and the challenge so that South Africa can host the next event.

Hamman earned her Drama and Theatre Arts degree from he University of the Free State, which she completed in 2019. She works as a freelance actress while actively p0ursuing her dreams in the entrertainment industry. She has stage experience in productions like Woelige Willemien en Haar Maatjie Meraatjie, The Making, Pietie en Kosie: Die Towerstaf Dief and many more. On screen she played the lead role of Gianna in the film Repercussions and also have other film credits to her name as well as commercials.

The other participants are from Ghana, Benin, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, the United States, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Zambia and Botswana.

Each country could support their finalist now. Voting for the top ten finalists can be done online here. Voting ends on Wednesday 16 September at 23:55.
