The Blitzboks pounced on a French mistake within the opening three minutes. Impi Visser connected with strong support play before releasing Ryan Oosthuizen. Oosthuizen crossed the line for the opening try.
France responded immediately with clinical wide attacking play. The French scored under the posts before converting successfully. France led 7-5 after their swift response.
Selvyn Davids produced an inch-perfect cross kick that found Donovan Don perfectly. Don gathered the ball after missing it on his first attempt to restore South Africa’s lead at 10-7.
France dominated possession throughout the first half but lacked clinical finishing. The Blitzboks defended resolutely while waiting for their scoring opportunities.

Davids continued his influential performance early in the second stanza. The playmaker delivered a perfectly-timed delayed pass to Christie Grobbelaar. Grobbelaar burst through the French defense to extend the lead to 15-7.
With under two minutes remaining, France launched a desperate attacking surge. The French moved the ball from deep within their territory. Their coast-to-coast movement finally yielded points, closing the gap to 15-12.
The Blitzboks held firm under late pressure to secure victory.
