Another house robbery has hit a farming area in the Helderberg, this time in Gordon’s Bay.

Thembakazi Mpendukana, spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed the incident took place around 20:15 on Thursday 10 September at a home in Clearwater Road, Firlands.

“Four unknown men entered the residence and tied the victims up before locking them in the bathroom before taking their personal belongings.”

She added the suspects faces were covered with balaclavas during the incident.

The investigation into the incident was ongoing and no arrests had yet been made.

The incident occurred three months after a string of house robberies on farms in Somerset West and other parts of the Boland.

In the last of these, on Friday 19 June in Raithby, five unknown men wearing balaclavas also tied their victim up before leaving with cellphones, jewellery and other valuables.

The suspects had the same modus operandi as in the five other house robberies, in Faure and Stellenbosch involving balaclava-clad men (Robbers on a rampage across Helderberg and Boland farms (“Robbers on a rampage across Helderberg and Boland farms“, DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 24 June).

Spokesperson for Somerset West police WO Suzan Jantjies confirmed there had been no other house robberies on farms involving men with face covers since then, after increasing patrols by officers and volunteers in the area.
