Hilton hosted Kearsney on a chilly Saturday afternoon for their final schoolboy rugby game home fixture of the season. The two rivals delivered another pulsating contest that went right down to the wire.

Kearsney struck first in the second minute when Daniel Miskey slotted a superb 40m penalty for a 3–0 lead. Hilton hit back quickly: a powerful surge from their eighthman set up the tighthead prop for the opening try, and the conversion made it 7–3. A similar quick-tap move in the 14th minute saw the hooker cross, stretching Hilton’s advantage to 14–3.

Hooker Luke Faure

Kearsney responded with a brilliantly executed lineout strike. Hooker Luke Faure’s perfectly timed pass sent Keanu Williamson slicing through the defence to score under the posts. Miskey converted to narrow the gap to 14–10. Hilton added a penalty from a scrum launch to lead 17–10 at halftime.

The hosts began the second half in style, launching a sweeping counterattack that ended with their right wing finishing in the corner. The conversion pushed the score to 24–10.

Kearsney then produced one of the highlights of the match. Luke Grobbelaar chased Miskey’s exit kick, charged down Hilton’s fullback, regathered, and sprinted 40m to score near the uprights. Miskey converted, closing the gap to 24–20.

Bruising driving attack

Hilton answered with a bruising driving attack that culminated in another try, extending their lead to 31–20. But two yellow cards for high tackles swung momentum back to Kearsney. With a two-man advantage, they pressed hard, and Miskey seized the moment—breaking through a half-gap and racing clear to score under the posts. His conversion brought the score to 31–27 with just minutes remaining.

The closing stages of this schoolboy rugby game were electric as Kearsney launched one final assault. Hilton’s defence held firm, winning a crucial breakdown penalty to secure a hard-fought 31–27 victory.

It was another down-to-the-wire encounter for Kearsney’s One-Stripe side, whose spirited second-half fightback nearly produced a remarkable comeback.
