St Charles College and Equitas Forge AI Research Partnership

St Charles College, Pietermaritzburg, has proudly joined forces with Equitas in a pioneering research partnership set to transform the future of teaching, learning, and assessment. Far from replacing teachers, Equitas’ AI‑driven solutions are designed to empower educators. It also enables them to engage students more effectively while offering levels of insight, personalization, and support previously unattainable.

At the launch event, Professor Alastair van Heerden and Mr Kurt Ferreira of Equitas showcased the platform’s cutting‑edge capabilities. It includes advanced optical character recognition, AI‑assisted assessment, and comprehensive feedback systems tailored for students, teachers, and school leaders. Crucially, this technology has been developed in response to real classroom challenges. Its applications are shaped by teachers seeking practical ways to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding.

The partnership has already yielded compelling research outcomes. It underscores the significant impact AI can have in enhancing teaching practice and improving learning results. Both St Charles College and Equitas recognise the far‑reaching potential of this innovation — not only for individual schools, but for education systems across South Africa and beyond.

“We are proud to be collaborating with such a forward‑thinking organisation and are excited about the opportunities ahead. Together, we believe this partnership can contribute meaningfully to the future of education, enabling more effective teaching, deeper learning, and greater educational impact for students both at St Charles College and across South Africa.”Mr Allen van Blerk, Principal
