SOMERSET WEST – More than a week after she was last seen, the search for missing Somerset West woman Rika Norris remains active – and police are intensifying their appeal to the public for any information that could help locate her.
The 60-year-old was last seen at approximately 10:00 on Saturday 23 May, when she set out for a walk at Lourensford Farm in Somerset West and did not return. Her disappearance was reported the following day, Sunday 24 May, prompting an immediate search operation that has continued uninterrupted in the days since.
She was wearing navy blue skipants and a multicoloured long-sleeve top when she was last seen.
Reports suggest that Norris was accompanied by her dog at the time of her disappearance.
Despite ongoing efforts involving local police officers and various role-players, no trace of Norris has been found.
Western Cape provincial police spokesperson constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that the investigation remains active. “All viable leads and lines of inquiry are being pursued,” he said. “To protect the integrity of the investigation, a detailed account will not be disclosed at this stage.”
The extended period of her absence has deepened concern for her wellbeing and the search is being treated with the utmost urgency.
Somerset West police are renewing their plea to the public – anyone who may have seen Norris, noticed anything unusual near Lourensford Farm in the days surrounding her disappearance, or has any information that could assist the investigation, is urged to come forward immediately.
Sergeant Dawid Stimela is leading the investigation and can be contacted directly on 079 894 0115. Alternatively, information can be reported to Crime Stop on 08600 10111. All information will be treated with the strictest confidence.
