A second senior municipal official attached to the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has been arrested this weekend.

The 40-year-old senior official was arrested on Sunday morning (19 April) in Johannesburg.

His arrest follows that of his colleague – also a senior municipal official (50) – who was arrested at his home on Saturday morning (18 April).

The two officials face charges of fraud, corruption and defeating and/or obstructing the ends of justice.

Both suspects will appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday (20 April).

Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says these arrests emanate from an ongoing investigation into corruption within the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department.
