Cape Town’s premier ballet company has added extra performances of their highly anticipated Dracula production after the first two evening shows sold out completely.

Cape Town City Ballet (CTCB) announced today that overwhelming public demand has prompted the company to schedule two additional performances: Sunday 22 March at 14:00 and Thursday 26 March at 19:00, as the remainder of the season continues to sell rapidly.

Grand opening

The production opens tonight, Friday 13 March, at Artscape Theatre — a fittingly gothic date for the dark romantic tale.

Dracula, choreographed and directed by renowned David Nixon CBE, promises to be a “spellbinding theatrical experience” that brings Bram Stoker’s classic vampire tale to life through dance.

The production boasts an exceptional cast led by Kirstél Paterson as Mina (CTCB principal ballerina), Hannah Ward as Lucy, and Leusson Muniz as Dracula. The demanding title role of Dracula will be shared between Muniz, Zachary Healy, Lihle Mfene, and special guest artist Jerome Barnes, formerly of Scottish Ballet.

What to expect

Audiences can look forward to highly physical choreography, gripping dramatic storytelling, and striking costumes. The production features an extraordinary musical score and atmospheric lighting design by Faheem Bardien that promises to transport viewers into Dracula’s dark, gothic world.

CTCB describes the show as “packed with pace, intrigue and haunting romance” — definitely not one to miss for local arts enthusiasts.
