The Pretoria Capitals secured a thrilling 15-run victory over the Durban Super Giants at Kingsmead, with Shai Hope’s unbeaten 118 proving the difference in a high-scoring encounter.
After the Super Giants won the toss and elected to bowl, the Capitals’ openers wasted no time asserting their dominance. Connor Esterhuizen and Hope forged a formidable partnership, guiding their side to 58 without loss at the end of the powerplay. The pair continued their assault on the Super Giants’ bowling attack, reaching three figures without being separated.
The breakthrough finally arrived on the last delivery of the 11th over when Wiese dismissed Esterhuizen for 37(28). Hope then survived a fortunate moment when the ball rattled the stumps but the bails remained intact, much to Kwena Maphaka’s dismay.
The West Indian batsman reached his century in the 17th over, showcasing exceptional timing and power. Maphaka dropped a crucial catch that would have ended Hope’s innings in the 18th over, and the batsman immediately punished the error by launching another six.

Roston Chase retired on 24(15) in the 19th over, whilst Sherfane Rutherford departed for just 2, caught in the deep off Maphaka’s bowling. Dewald Brevis contributed 12(5) before Gerald Coetzee removed him in the final over. The Capitals posted a commanding 201/4, with Hope finishing on 118*(69).
Chasing 202, the Super Giants’ innings began promisingly as Ackerman struck 27(17) balls before Brevis caught him attempting another big shot. Captain Kane Williamson managed only 12 before dragging the ball onto his stumps off Lizaad Williams’ bowling, leaving his side 47/2 in the fifth over.

Aiden Markram’s dismissal for 16 in the 10th over, caught on the boundary, increased the pressure. Heinrich Klaasen fell for 16 in the 16th over, and Jones departed for a golden duck on the very next delivery, both falling to catches by Brevis off Peters’ bowling.
The Super Giants’ hopes crumbled further when Lungi Ngidi produced a devastating spell in the 18th over. Wiese departed for eight, followed by Narine and Coetzee, both for ducks, as Ngidi completed a memorable hat-trick, the first in Betway SA20 history. The home side finished on 160/8.
Despite requiring 18 runs from the final over, the Super Giants lost their last two wickets to run-outs, with Maphaka and Noor Ahmad both failing to score. Jos Buttler remained stranded on 96*(51), his valiant effort insufficient as the Capitals celebrated a 15-run triumph.
