Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has called on residents across the Western Cape to secure tickets for the upcoming HSBC SVNS Cape Town tournament, describing the December event as a weekend highlight for the city.
With exactly one month remaining until the tournament kicks off, Hill-Lewis urged Capetonians to make the 6-7 December weekend memorable by attending what he characterised as one of the year’s premier sporting events at DHL Stadium.
“The countdown is on to one of the most fun weekends of the year,” Hill-Lewis said on Thursday. “The HSBC SVNS Cape Town returns to DHL Stadium next month and I can’t wait. Few events bring our city to life quite like the Sevens.”
The tournament will feature 16 of the world’s top sevens teams competing over two days of international rugby. The Springbok Sevens team will take to the field as both reigning tournament champions and HSBC SVNS World Champions.
Spectators can expect to see elite teams including Fiji and Argentina’s men’s sides. Australia’s women’s team, and both male and female squads from New Zealand. The tournament draw will be conducted following the Emirates Dubai Sevens, scheduled for the weekend preceding the Cape Town event.
The Mayor emphasised the tournament’s appeal beyond traditional rugby supporters.”It is fast-paced, world-class rugby. An incredible weekend of colour, energy and fun for the whole family.”
“Whether you’re a lifelong rugby fan or just love a wonderful day out in our city with the family, don’t miss the sevens,” he urged. “Come dressed in your best sevens outfit. Come and support the Blitzboks and be part of the best sporting atmosphere anywhere in the world.”
Hill-Lewis confirmed his family’s attendance and encouraged residents to join them at the December tournament.
Tournament organisers have structured pricing across multiple categories. Category A tickets are priced at R600 for west and east lower tier seating on the halfway line. The most affordable Category D tickets cost R250 for unreserved seating on levels two and three. A family special offering four tickets in blocks 105-112 is available for R750, and disabled access tickets cost R450.
Tickets are exclusively available through Ticketmaster.co.za. Organisers have warned supporters against purchasing from online resellers such as Viagogo. These entities lack access to legitimate tickets and charge inflated prices without delivery guarantees.
