LIMPOPO – A 20-year-old female school learner is scheduled to appear in Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Court today following her arrest for allegedly pouring boiling water on a fellow learner at Kgagatlou Secondary School in Seleteng village, Limpopo.
The suspect faces charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the incident that left a 19-year-old male student hospitalised with severe burn wounds.
According to police spokesperson Col. Malesela Ledwaba, the attack took place in the early hours of 26 October at approximately 04:30 while both Grade 12 learners were attending an examination preparation camp at the school.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the male learner was asleep inside one of the classrooms when the suspect allegedly approached him and accused him of touching her private parts,” Ledwaba said. “The victim reportedly denied the allegations.”
Police reports reveal that the female student initially left the classroom but returned with boiling water, which she then poured over the sleeping victim.
The suspect was arrested on Friday, 31 October, based on prima facie evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation.
The victim remains under medical care at a local hospital, receiving treatment for serious burn injuries sustained in the attack.
Both students were participating in the school’s examination preparation program ahead of their final matric examinations when the incident occurred.
The case highlights growing concerns about violence in educational institutions and the extreme measures some students resort to when addressing perceived grievances.
