Four police officers caught in act of committing crime.

PRETORIA – Four men appeared before the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court today facing serious charges including kidnapping, fraud, and impersonating police officials, following an alleged violent crime that ended with their arrest on a major highway.

The accused face multiple charges including kidnapping, fraud, robbery with aggravating circumstances, impersonating a police official, unlawful possession of an automatic firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

According to court documents, the incident unfolded on 10 October, at about 10:00 when the four suspects, allegedly wearing Hawks T-shirts, stopped a vehicle carrying a 42-year-old man. The suspects allegedly pointed a rifle at the victim, forced him from his vehicle, handcuffed him, and covered his head with a T-shirt before driving off with him in a white Golf GTI.

The dramatic case took a turn when alert members of the Tshwane Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) spotted the suspicious Golf GTI traveling along the R80 highway. The officers noticed the vehicle contained four occupants plus what appeared to be a victim, prompting them to conduct an inspection.

Upon checking the vehicle’s registration, officers discovered that the number plates belonged to a different vehicle entirely, raising immediate red flags about the car’s legitimacy.

The police officers then further searched the vehicle and recovered an AK-47 rifle, several rounds of live ammunition, dashboard blue lights, cable ties, a vehicle siren, and T-shirts bearing police emblems. The discovery of these items suggested an elaborate scheme to impersonate law enforcement officials.

All four suspects were immediately arrested at the scene, and the victim was successfully rescued unharmed.

The case has been postponed to 20 October for bail application.
