Remains found at the Salt River Mortuary, brought there from Philippi East, could well be those of kidnapped Milnerton businessman Roger Brijlal, nearly two weeks after he was reported missing.

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg, the remains were found in Philippi East on Tuesday 16 September and taken to the mortuary. Their formal identification had not yet been confirmed.

“Provincial Organised Crime Investigation, together with the Multi-Disciplinary Anti-Kidnapping Task Team, is investigating a case of kidnapping registered at Milnerton Police Station on 9 September involving a 59-year-old man. On Tuesday detectives traced the body of an as-yet-unidentified man to the Salt River Mortuary.”

He added that both the kidnapping and murder cases remain under active investigation, and no further details can be released at this stage.

Brijlal, a well-known business owner, was last seen on the morning of 9 September on leaving for work, TygerBurger reported on Monday. His car was later discovered abandoned in Joe Slovo, a neighbouring township.

That evening Brijlal’s fiancée reported him missing. Soon afterwards she received a call demanding ransom for his safe return.

Police confirmed no arrests had been made and investigations continued.
