The local community is continuing its desperate search for the whereabouts of a missing eight-year-old girl from Lotus River.

The search for Anovuyo Oncke has now entered its fifth day. She was last seen on Saturday morning, 6 September, and was wearing black pants and a pink pajama top at the time.

A missing person’s case was opened at Grassy Park Police Station on Sunday 7 September, said police spokesperson Sgt Alridge Isaacs.

“The Wynberg Family Violence Child Protection Sexual Offences Unit is seeking the assistance of the public in tracing missing 8-year-old Anovuyo Oncke, who went missing on Saturday 6 September. According to reports, the victim left her residence and never returned,” said police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg.

Community and neighbourhood-watch members have searched the entire Phumlani Village as well as Strandfontein Beach, according to Lotus River resident and Ottery Neighbourhood Watch member Stanford James.

Gail Johnstone, assistant to Ward 67 councillor Geraldine Gordon, said the community had been searching the surrounding areas since Monday 8 September.
