SMITHFIELD – A motor vehicle was stolen during a violent incident on a farm in the Smithfield district on 30 August.
It is alleged that between 20:30 and 23:40, three unknown armed men gained entry to the farm by cutting through a fence near the locked gates. The suspects proceeded to the residence of a 53-year-old male farm worker, who was asleep at the time. The suspects forced entry into the house and demanded the keys to a vehicle parked on the property.
Two of the suspects then entered the garage and drove off with a white Toyota Hilux (registration number: DSB 071 FS). The suspects also took household goods during the robbery.
“The victim did not sustain any visible injuries but was transported to a medical facility for treatment of shock,” says Capt Loraine Earle, media liaison officer, Free State SAPS.
Earle says the necessary role players were activated, and the crime scene was processed accordingly. The suspects are still at large, and police investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation is urged to contact Colonel Ben Bolsiek from the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit at 082 466 8530 or call CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
