Five men were arrested after a robbery at a wind farm.

Five men who assaulted security personnel on a wind farm at Sutherland and stole valuable items were arrested in a cross-border collaboration between police members from the Northern Cape and the Western Cape.

According to police reports, it is believed that on Tuesday 4 November at approximately 02:30, members of a security company were on duty at the Karreebos Wind Farm when three unknown men approached the guardhouse and threatened them with firearms.

The assailants allegedly assaulted the security personnel and forced them to the site office, where they broke a window and stole radios, diesel and cellphones belonging to the complainant, said Captain Ivan Magerman, police communication officer in the Namakwa District.

The suspects fled the scene in a truck, which was later spotted by the security transport vehicle.

Police in the Western Cape were alerted, while the truck was being followed by another security vehicle who alerted the authorities. With the assistance of the police in Lainsburg, the truck was intercepted in the Touwsrivier area.

Members of the police in Touwsrivier apprehended and arrested the five male suspects aged 29 to 44, and confiscated toy guns used by the suspects in the robbery.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

The Namakwa District commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews, commended the members for collaboration between the two provinces and for their swift reaction and arrests of the fleeing suspects.
