Another 15 suspects were arrested late last week in the Northern Cape for contraventions of the Immigration Act, illegal mining activities, and possession of suspected unpolished diamonds.
At a diamond site in Koingnaas in the Namakwa District, ten male suspects who were actively engaged in illegal mining were arrested. The individuals were also found in possession of suspected unpolished diamonds.
In a separate intervention in the Francis Baard District, disruptive operations were conducted at the Beefmaster illegal mining camp. A significant quantity of dagga was also recovered during the action.
Additionally, three suspects were arrested at a wholesale premises in Phakamile Mabija Street in Kimberley. They were found to be in the country without valid documentation.

Also, on Friday, 20 June, two more suspects were arrested in Longlands following intelligence reports of illegal mining activities in the area. Police confiscated suspected diamond-bearing gravel, unpolished diamonds, and various equipment. These are believed to have been used in the commission of illegal mining operations.
Sgt Merapelo Pilane, police spokesperson, said the 15 male suspects are aged from 22 to 50 years.
Pilane said the arrests were the result of a multi-disciplinary, intelligence-driven operation conducted by members deployed under Operation Vala Umgodi in the Namakwa District. Police actions were also executed by teams under the leadership of the provincial Tactical Joint Operational Centre (Tac Joc) commander, Col Sebenzile Qunta.
All arrested individuals are expected to appear in the respective magistrates’ courts on Monday, 23 June.
