Worcester Cricket Club played against Hexvallei Cricket Club this past weekend (3 December) and won the match by 144 runs, securing themselves the Cape Winelands North First Division 50 Over title.
Both openers of Worcester, Morné Scholtz and Delbrin Arendse, started gingerly, but managed to spend time at the crease in hope of the wicket improving.
With two quick wickets falling before the break, Brenden Groenewald annihilated the bowling attack of Hexvallei.
Groenewald made the fielders of Hexvallei chase leather all morning, while the fielding side tried every last bit to unsettle him. He ended his innings on 189 (not out) and was well supported by Ubaid Ullah who struck a few big blows on his way to 66.
Worcester Cricket Club ended on 369/8 in their 50 overs.
Hexvallei then went in to bat, and Ullah and Christiaan Geldenhuys started fast and furiously, getting rid of one of Hexvallei’s openers early. The best batsmen were Groenewald with 189 (not out) and Ullah 66. Worcester’s best bowlers: Ullah (3/37), Jean Gregg (2/22) and Adrian Strom (2/22).
