Worcester Cricket Club hosted Montagu CC in a must-win game for both teams which would determine who will play in the Cape Winelands North T20 Finals this coming Saturday (4 February).
Worcester however walked out as winners and won by four wickets.
Worcester CC won the toss and elected to bowl first. In an attempt to make the best use of the overcast conditions the team’s opening bowlers Ubaid Ullah and Weum Rabie were on the money by restricting Montagu Cricket Club to 18/5 and eventually ending on 85/9 after 20 overs.
Weum Rabie was the pick of the bowlers claiming four wickets.
Needing only 86 to win, Worcester CC started gingerly with the opening bowlers of Montagu CC, who bowled with good discipline. Worcester CC batters chipped in with Jean Gregg the anchor, but wickets fell at regular intervals, which made the chase harder than it should have been. Needing 30 of 30 balls, with Ubaid Ullah and Siphe Malope at the crease, they took the game to the Montagu bowlers.
Two huge sixes in the penultimate over from Siphe Malope had Worcester end the game in style and confirmed Worcester CC’s spot in the Cape Winelands North T20 Finals.
The best batsman of the match was Jean Gregg (21) and Siphe Malope (19 not out) and the best bouler was Weum Rabie (4/16).
