Worcester CC played against Brandvlei CC on Saturday (4 February) in the finals of the Cape Winelands North T20 series, winning the match with 105/5 after 17.1 overs.
WCC won the toss and elected to bowl first. The opening bowlers, Ubaid Ullah and Weum Rabie, started with good defence and discipline with Brandvlei CC being 16 for 2 after the power play.
Small partnerships came and went as the game developed with Kurwin Noble being the pick of the Brandvlei CC batsmen, scoring 47 not out and Brandvlei CC ending their innings on 104 for the loss of 4 wickets.
However, Worcester CC looked for the double in both 50 overs as T20 the champions were ready for the chase.
Openers of Worcester CC, Morne Scholtz and Haydar Khan, took Brandvlei CC’s bowlers on from the get go.
Even after the loss of both openers with the score on 50, the batsmen of Worcester CC continued their attacking play in their pursuit of the winning target. The final partnership between Jacobus Hooneberg and Ullah that sealed a comfortable victory in the end for Worcester CC as they are T20 over champions in the Cape Winelands North division.
Worcester CC’s best bowlers were Rabie (1/12) and Ullah (1/13) and the best batsmen, Khan (19) and Scholtz (17).
