“On Saturday 29 April at 07:10, the police received a complaint of possible a dead person lying in the road in Aspad, on the graveyard side in Emagwaleni, Zwelethemba,” Worcester police spokesperson Warrant Officer Vathiswa Jacobs related. “On their arrival police members saw the body of a female lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.”
At the time of going to print it was still unclear what had led to the shooting. No arrests had yet been made.
In a separate incident police were looking for three suspects in connection with an apparent vigilante-style murder involving the severe beating of a Malawian man. The incident also took place on 29 April, at 02:15 in Zwelethemba.
“Just after the electricity went back on after a power failure three men accused a Malawian national of stealing,” Jacobs said. “They proceeded to beat him up. After they were done other community members also joined the fray and brutally beat him. He was later rushed to hospital and succumbed to his injuries not long after.”
At this stage no arrests had been made in connection with this attack.
