A woman found in possession of drugs made her first court appearance on Tuesday.
According to Warrant Officer Vathiswa Jacobs, Worcester police spokesperson, police had acted on a tip-off. “The anti-gang unit (AGU) received a tip-off on Friday 28 October at 20:39 about a flat in Stöckenstrom Street,” she said, “where the AGU together with the Breede Valley K9 Unit executed a section 22 search.”
The owner of the flat in question granted permission for the flat to be searched.
“During their search of the premises they found a 9 mm magazine with live ammunition in it and 12 transparent plastic bags filled with Mandrax tablets. Later in their search they found four more black plastic bags that were wrapped, which also contained Mandrax tablets,” Jacobs related.
Both the drugs and ammunition were found in a cupboard.
A total of 16 000 Mandrax at an estimated street value of R640 000 were confiscated during the search. According to court documents 25 rounds of ammunition were found.
The owner of the flat was arrested and charged for possession of drugs and illegal ammunition. She was released on R10 000 bail and is expected to appear again in court on Tuesday 6 December. – Tamsyn Jantjies
