Capital Security has denied any wrongdoing in the case of one of its security guards, Simcelile Nqeto.

On 2 May 2024 an article was published detailing an incident involving a security guard who sustained burn injuries in October 2023.

It focused on the case of Simcelile Nqeto, an employee of the company, and presented information that has since been disputed by the company.

Nqeto was attacked while on duty on 7 October 2023 at the Crematorium (ICSA). According to Nqeto his assailants drove him to an open field in Aan de Doorns with his own private vehicle, where he was doused with petrol and set alight.

Nqeto sustained serious burn injuries and was hospitalised. A local farmer discovered him on the side of the road and transported him to Worcester Hospital, from where he was later transferred to Worcester MediClinic for further treatment.

Following the incident Nqeto alleged he was not treated fairly by Capital Security. However, the company strongly disputes these claims and asserts it adhered to all required protocols and legal obligations:. Nqeto received his full salary of R5 500 for the months of October and November 2023. Although his salary was reduced in December 2023 he received 75% of his monthly remuneration for a period of three months, in compliance with legal requirements.. The incident was promptly and properly reported to the Workers Compensation Fund (WCF), enabling Nqeto to claim further compensation.. While an inquiry was lodged regarding Nqeto’s fitness to return to work, his employment was never terminated. He resumed his duties on 25 April 2024 and remains employed by Capital Security.. Nqeto continues to receive treatment and will undergo plastic surgery if necessary.

Capital Security also categorically denied all allegations made by Mandla Mngqikana from the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) following the incident.

The Worcester Standard & Breederivier Gazette apologises for any incorrect perceptions or misconceptions that may have arisen from the wrongful statements by Nqeto in our publication dated 2 May.
