MONTAGU – The Montagu Volunteer Fire and Rescue (MVFR), a non-profit organisation, is in need of funds to equip new recruits with the essential gear that will enable them to perform their role.

On Saturday 5 September this group held a fundraiser, a 5 km trail run in full firefighter’s kit on the Montagu Trails in the Montagu South area, behind Montagu High School.

It was initiated by Patti van Dyk, who was assisted by Reinier Kitshoff, Tertius Olivier, Petrus Jansen and David Thurlwell, in collaboration with the Montagu Trails Association.

“We are calling on all businesses, especially in the Montagu area, to donate R500 to support us in acquiring the much-needed gear.

“The donations will be used to equip a few of the newly-recruited firefighters with protective clothing as well as other equipment,” said Van Dyk, a volunteer and chief organiser of last Saturday’s event.
