Girls in the Breede Valley will now have access to courses that will be enriching to their young adult lives.
Girl-School is a unique and empowering course and journey, that will give young girls knowledge and tools that will grow their confidence, self-esteem and cultivate healthy and powerful habits in life. She will learn to treat herself, and others, with respect and love, and learn to embrace her inner and outer beauty, says founder Maureen Koots.
The concept of the school was derived from the challenges that arises in the delicate years of being a pre-teen.
“If one does not take charge of their education and upbringing, parents tend to learn the hard way,” says Koorts.
“In today’s world, where girls are growing up faster than ever before, it is our responsibility to ensure that we are doing all we can to equip them with empowering tools and skills to face the world with confidence, self-respect and beauty that shines from within.”
The courses will be hosted every month and even during school holidays in English and Afrikaans. All course dates are available on their website and will be updated as they continue.
There are two options for courses: The two day course will be held over two Saturdays from 09:00 to 16:00 or during school holidays.
They also have a 15 week course that will be either on a Tuesday or Thursday from 16:30 to 17:45 (only one class per week over a period of 15 weeks).
Quizzed on why they are only focusing on ages 2 to 7 Koots says: “Research shows that most children are already feeling insecure by the tender age of only five. Suicide among the youth is higher than ever and self-harm is rising. The constant pressure from ‘the world’ to look and be a specific way, our children feel they have no one to talk to and they are not equipped with learning tools to deal with ‘heavy’ emotions.”
Low-confidence and self-esteem also plays a big role too.
“We are pleased to share that from next year we are launching the course from Grades 8 – 12. We are also excited and looking forward to our Boyschool Course that will launch either the end of this year or early next year. Another exciting course that is launching in the future is our Hello World course that will prepare our scholars for the ‘adult’ world.”
