WORCESTER – Bongani Mase and Luzuko Funani who were arrested on 18 January for charges relating to domestic violence, were denied bail in Worcester Magistrates’ Court.
This decision was welcomed by GBV (gender-based violence) activists and the broad community of Zwelethemba who had signed a petition against the two individuals.
Mase stands accused of severely abusing his partner, Nomvuyiseko Makade, on Christmas Day.
In a separate incident, Luzuko Funani was arrested on charges of abusing his girlfriend, Penelope Chadambura, and stabbing her mother.
The 32-year-old Zimbabwean hair stylist endured significant bodily injuries due to Funani’s actions, while her mother suffered three head wounds and a few hand injuries while defending her daughter against Funani. GBV activist Nolubabalo Siyolo said: “I’m happy that as a community our cries have been heard.
“I also want to encourage other victims of GBV to take a stand and come forward in reporting these acts of violence.”
