The Breede Valley Municipality’s traffic chief, who was accused and suspended after making racial remarks towards his colleague, has returned to work.

Danvin Maart, who was temporarily relieved from his duties last year after an investigation was launched by the municipality following a WhatsApp message made the rounds where he used the K-word on a colleague returned to work on 24 January.

According to JP Myburg, spokesperson for the municipality, a comprehensive and independent investigation was conducted by labour and IT experts.

“They concluded that no evidence existed to substantiate the allegations against the employee. The investigation team took their time with all of his devices and found no compelling grounds for further disciplinary action in this regard at this time.”

He further said the experts could not confirm the origin of the screenshot of an alleged message that was circulated. No compelling evidence could link the said official to that particular message.
