Step 1: Register your school

Entry and relay race date must be confirmed via email to your region’s coordinator As per contact details below. If a school is not already registered as a WESSA Eco-School, they can register online here.

Step 2: Create a strong message

School’s Eco-committees will select one of the following themes and create a strong climate action message related to that theme. The 3 themes are Renewable Energy; incorporating Climate Change Education in the Curriculum; and Zero Waste in Schools.

Step 3: Get active to support climate action and education

Schools will organise a relay-run of no less than four relay teams during their participation week. The relay run can take place on school grounds and the winning team will present the school’s climate action message in a ‘’Memorandum of Demands’’ format to school leadership at a handover ceremony.

Step 4: How your school’s message will get to COP27

Schools must send their climate-action message and accompanying photos of participation, to their regional WESSA coordinator. All the messages received will be distilled down into five messages and physically delivered to COP27 on 6 November by WESSA’s Head of Education and Training, Cindy-Lee Cloete.

24-28 October: Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Northern Cape
