A family of three burnt to death in a fire on Tuesday 9 May.
It is believed the fire started as a result of a short circuit in the early hours of Tuesday, but this had not yet been proven.
“Police officers from the Zwelethemba Police Station received a call at 02:18 on Tuesday about a shack being on fire in the C Section of Mandela Square in Zwelethemba.
However, on their arrival four shacks were burning,” explained WO Vathiswa Jacobs, a police spokesperson. “It is suspected the short circuit was caused by load shedding.
Two adults, aged 44 and 33 years old, and their 7-year-old child perished in the fire.
The incident is still being investigated at this stage.
