Numerous guests that have visited the Goudini Spa resort recently have complained about items being stolen from their accommodation units.
Most recently, Yumnah Abrahams shared her dismay on social media and with Standard. Abrahams wrote the following: “I just want to make you aware of what’s happened to me and I’m very sure to lots of others too. We went to Goudini Spa on Friday 10 March and left Monday 13 March. On the morning that we left, an older man that was a few plots away from us, approached us to tell us his belongings had gone missing or have been stolen.
“We were in shock because we told him that we don’t see anything missing from our belongings, but that we’ll have a look. We then noticed our cooler box filled with food, my mom’s laptop and clothing had been stolen from us too.”
They waited for the office to open so that they could report their missing items. Statements were also given to the police by both parties.
“The manager later apologised to us and said this has never happened before. But the police told us this kind of thing frequently happened at the resort. We were rather told that we were negligent.”
Standard sent the resort questions regarding the allegations from both Abrahams and previous complaints about theft at the resort. Standard pertinently asked whether their staff’s belongings are searched before they leave at the end of their shift.
“No, we do not take that kind of action. It is not necessary with the positive attitude of the Goudini staff to conduct such actions. Management always does a thorough investigation when allegations regarding theft are reported. We first start with staff and security personnel to assist management in getting information so that a complete investigation can be done before we involve the police to handle matters if necessary. The police did investigate the matter further and no staff member was involved, as claimed by the person,” said Pieter du Toit, an assistant manager and resort manager from Goudini Spa.
When asked if the resort receives many complaints regarding theft from guests, Du Toit said: “We create a safe environment for visitors to enjoy their visit to the resort. This kind of allegation is out of the ordinary.”
He also says that all reports of theft at the spa are treated as high priority and receives thorough investigations. “All such reports, surfacing from time to time, are treated at the highest level with thorough investigations, and, as mentioned, we have a secure security watch system that is efficient and functions very well. We have a high-standard security watch and roving system to ensure safety and good order at the resort.”
The Rawsonville police have confirmed they receive complaints of theft at the resort from time to time.
