A message form Worcester Standard’s newest journalist, Jana Scheepers:
Good day Worcester residents, my name is Jana Scheepers, and I am the newest member of the Worcester Standard team.
I joined the newspaper this past week as one of the three community journalists.
Coming from the West Coast, the Winelands region and its mountainous beauty has me in awe every day. Driving through the Huguenot tunnel from Paarl where I currently reside, and entering the Du Toitskloof mountains every work day erases the fast-paced environment we all find ourselves in.
During my studies at the Stellenbosch University, where I also completed my honours degree in journalism, I found myself working at three community newspapers, and thoroughly enjoying it.
These publications include Weslander, situated in the West Coast region, TygerBurger, which operates in various Cape Town suburbs, as well as Paarl Post up to recently before joining Standard.
Therefore, I believe it is safe to say that I relish in the close-knit environment of community journalism, as it requires an in-depth knowledge and love for the towns falling under a certain newspaper – a love immediately transferred to the Breede Valley where I currently find myself in.
Beyond having an inquisitive mind and passion for writing, I spend my free time deeply entrenched within the horse riding community – a hobby which has deepened my love for all four-legged friends, and enriched my life to the fullest extent.
Thank you for already welcoming me with open arms at various grocery outlets, coffee shops and work related duties.
I am looking forward to submerging myself in the Worcester community, as well as the broader Breede Valley region even more within the coming months.
