A taxi war erupted on Tuesday (27 June) in Qaba Street in Zwelethemba, Worcester, where a taxi driver opened fire on another.
Worcester police spokesperson WO Grant Stynder said the incident took place around 21:50.
“The victim and another man were filling a quantum taxi up with diesel when two unknown men approached them and asked, ‘When are you going to give us diesel?’.”
The seller replied that he “does not know”, after which the men each produced a 9 mm firearm and shots were fired. One of the taxi drivers who was filling up the quantum taxi, was struck in the head and right arm.
The suspects then just walked away from the scene.
The help of the police and emergency services was called in and the injured man was taken to Worcester Hospital for treatment.
Stynder said that the incident relates to stolen diesel, which was being sold at a cheaper price among taxi operators in Zwelethemba.
He said one of the perpetrators was trying to buy such diesel from when the shooting took place.
Stynder said that incidents of stolen diesel has increased in Worcester in the past few weeks.
He added that the police do not yet know where, or how, the diesel is stolen but will question the alleged seller of the stolen diesel, for more information on such theft.
No arrests have been made and a case of attempted murder is being investigated by the Worcester police.
