In a dynamic display of community spirit and sportsmanship, Titans Table Tennis Club joined forces with Bumbisizwe NPO to host an engaging table-tennis coaching clinic at the Zwelethemba Community Hall this past Saturday, 4 November.
This partnership aimed to sow the seeds of a blossoming table-tennis culture in the community, with an eye towards establishing a school team and potentially birthing a brand-new club.
Excitement filled the air as children flocked to the event, eager to learn and play under the guidance of dedicated coaches from Titans Table Tennis Club and Bumbisizwe NPO.
Approximately 17 children, ranging in age from 3 to 13, came to the Zwelethemba Community Hall, representing three different schools. The diversity and enthusiasm among those attending showcased a wealth of untapped potential, leaving coaches and organisers inspired for what lies ahead.
Jerome Pietersen, table-tennis coach, explained: “The clinic is not just a focus on forehands and backhands; it rallies community development through sport. By introducing Zwelethemba’s youth to the exhilarating world of table tennis it aims to spark a lifelong passion, paving the way for establishing a dedicated club in the area.”
Bumbisizwe NPO Founder Thobile Sondlo highlighted the importance of getting kids off the street through sports “keep kids busy on a Saturday and take them off the streets, to continue this vital work, sponsors are needed”.
The organisers extend a heartfelt appeal, especially to teachers within local schools, to join in this collective effort.
The Titans Table Tennis Club and Bumbisizwe NPO are poised to leave an indelible mark on the future of table tennis in Zwelethemba. With passion, teamwork and community at its core this collaboration promises to nurture talents and sow the seeds of a lasting sporting legacy.
