Efforts by the Western Cape police to stop the illegal distribution of drugs in communities achieved success when officers arrested two foreign nationals for dealing in drugs in Robertson.

Last Wednesday (2 October), around 16:20, officers received information about a suspicious-looking VW Polo driving on the R60 in the direction of Robertson. Officers quickly responded and found the identified vehicle on the road, near the police station. It was stopped and searched, during which seven bags of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R140 000 were found and confiscated.

Two foreign nationals males, aged 29 and 31, were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and for being in the country illegally.

Both suspects will appear in the Robertson Magistrates’ Court once charged.

In another crime-prevention operation police arrested a man in Worcester in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

On Friday 4 October, shortly after midnight, police members were busy with stop-and-search duties in Riverview, Worcester when they saw a person walking towards a vehicle and he suddenly changed his direction. The officers then approached him and he attempted to flee, but they managed to apprehend him.

They found a 9 mm P.A.K and 9 mm rounds of ammunition and a long knife fell from his waist. An adult male was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest and common assault.
