The Stellenbosch University’s Bachelor of Social Work third-year students who have been placed in Worcester had to organise a project focusing on addressing social challenges within the school community.

The students placed at Somerset High School hosted Somerset’s Got Talent.

The reason for the project was to promote creative arts as a positive social activity, to showcase the talent of the learners as well as empower them regarding the positive impact that music, dance and other forms of art can have on one’s mental health and well-being.

The learners performed in groups as well as individually in a variety of acts, including dancing, singing, rapping and poetry. Three winners were announced. The goal is to continue to motivate learners and their parents to engage with and take part in creative arts and activities as a means to avoid negative influences and social activities such as drug abuse and gangsterism.
