The police in Tulbagh have arrested five suspects in connection with various crimes.
Possession of magic mushrooms

On Friday 1 April at about 13:30 the D shift were conducting a roadblock on the R46 road when a white Polo Vivo was pulled to the side and searched. The police found 15 bags of magic mushrooms on the back seat of the car.

The accused lives on a farm in Tulbagh. The suspect was released on R2 000 bail.Possession of stolen goods

On Monday 4 April at 17:00 the D shift were alerted to a car with stolen goods from a shop in Moorreesburg at large. Police members patrolling the R44 spotted the blue Ford Fiesta and stopped it.

The occupants were searched and a bag full of new clothing items was found in the car. All the occupants were arrested and appeared in the Tulbagh Magistrates’ Court after their personal details were confirmed.Business robbery and illegal possession of a firearm

On Saturday 2 April at about 08:15 while the owner of the Welcome store in Waveren Street was opening for the workers, robbers entered the shop. Three unknown men entered with a firearm and knife demanding money from the owner.

The police were informed and the suspects were tracked down in Van Der Stel Street.

The suspects fired at the police who they returned fire, wounding one suspect in the leg.

A firearm, Llama 9 mm pistol with two rounds, was recovered. The vehicle they used, a Toyota Corolla with registration CF 169360, was also seized.

Some of the stolen money was retrieved.

Three suspects were apprehended.
