The Worcester United second team travelled to Piketberg last Saturday (28 January) to take on their second team at Piketberg.
The first team had a bye weekend.
Piketberg won the toss and sent in United to bat first. United got off to a flying start scoring at six runs to the over. After 12 overs they were 73/2. Opener Wayne Fransman offered an early chance but after that took full control and scored freely on both sides of the wicket. Fransman played with a stomach bug and in temperatures close to 40°C, yet he managed to reach his 100 in the 27th over.
United were soon 201/6 after 33 overs but a mini collapse followed and United were bowled out for 229 runs in the 43rd over. Fransman top scored with 121 runs and ably supported by Ashwin Lukas with 18 runs. Riaan Maarman of Piketberg took 3/21 of 7 overs and Rowan Lesch 2/34 of 8 overs. Piketberg got off to a good start and were 50/0 after 8 overs but soon found themselves at 53/3 after 13 overs. United bowlers made further inroads into the Piketberg middle order. Piketberg were struggling at 136/8 after 39 overs. They were all bundled out for 155 runs.
United won the game with 74 runs. The best bowlers for United II were captain Warren Nimrod with 3/15 off 10 overs, Warren Davids with 2/13 off 3 overs, Ashwin Lukas with 2/20 off 9 overs and the young Xander Booysen with 2/27 off 10 overs.
This coming weekend United I will be travelling to Stellenbosch to take on Maties I while the second team will play host to Maties II.
